My name is Jordan Brown. This is my second year as a graduate student at UC-Berkeley. For me, a June 30th lay-off means watching this (I thought, venerable) institution squander a wealth of expertise and dedication, betray its most selfless and socioeconomically vulnerable members, screw over the teachers and librarians that I depend on for my learning and research, and deprive me of my most brilliant and searching colleagues and friends. Universities protect their communities; corporations protect their bottom line. Which are you, UC?
