This year marks my 20th year as a lecturer at UC Berkeley. My students and my colleagues in College Writing Programs, an all-lecturer division, are the reason I’m so committed to my job. As a professional writer, I know that the core courses in composition, research and creative writing we teach will benefit students from all disciplines and continue to matter long after their graduations. But many of my hard-working, dedicated colleagues have little job security. It’s time to honor the work they do.
