I came to UCLA in March to help run an Organized Research Unit. Two weeks later came the stay at home order. I live in fear. Terrified that as someone in a probationary period, no seniority, and not represented by a union, I’ll be the first on the chopping block. Terrified that I’ll lose health insurance and access to medication I can’t go without. Terrified that after landing this great job, I’ll wind up back in Baton Rouge, living with my retired parents. If cuts are necessary, let them start with the president and chancellors, not us workers. We deserve better.
