A layoff would disrespect the excellence I have brought to the department for 7 years and leave my family without health insurance.

I have been a Lecturer at Cal since 2013 and was recently promoted to Continuing Lecturer with many accolades and a larger-than-usual merit increase, as a result. Continuing Lecturers are supposed to have greater job security, but I was told that the course I teach in the Fall might be moved to the Spring due to anticipated low enrollment as a result of COVID19, and the department’s unwillingness to offer the course with lower enrollment, in spite of these extraordinary circumstances. This would leave me unemployed and without health insurance for me and my family.
