My name is Becky Hsu. This is my first year at UC Berkeley as a lecturer, but my 14th year at Cal (first as an undergrad, then as a grad student working full-time). A June 30th lay-off means my dedication to teaching undergrads goes unnoticed and unappreciated. It means the campus loses another talented instructor, devoted to teaching undergraduates the core reading and writing skills they need to succeed in college and beyond. It means one less Asian American on a faculty already composed mostly of white lecturers, despite the fact that the student population is composed mostly of POC.
