A June 30th lay-off means losing health care, income, community and identity

My name is Ari Edmundson, I’m a first year lecturer in the Department of History at UC Berkeley. For me, a June 30th lay-off means a loss of all income and health care for me and my wife; it means losing contact with the more than 700 students I taught this year; it means interrupting the progress we’ve made developing what is now the largest course offered in the History department and building a community of students; and it likely means the end of a career in academia.
